Pricing and Affordability
Our subscription pricing is based on paying a fair price to local farmers using sustainable practices, plus the costs of processing, transport, distribution, and all the little things involved in making these tasty local products available. We understand that for those used to buying industrial scale, conventional products, often sourced from other countries, the price may seem steep. However, we think the benefits of helping farmers to make a decent living, paying workers along the way a living wage, and minimizing environmental damage are worth it, and reflect the true costs of everything that goes into producing our food.
Because we believe that fresh, healthy food should be accessible to all, we are trying some new strategies this year to try to make the winter produce subscription available to more people:
To sign up for any of the above options or for more information, please contact us. Let us know which option(s) you are interested in and give us a little information about why the assistance is needed. We ask you to be honest about what you can afford so that we can accommodate those most in need. Unfortunately, we may not be able to accommodate all requests for assistance. This is a new program for us, so please bear with us as we work out the kinks and let us know if there are ways we can make it easier or smoother to participate.
Because we believe that fresh, healthy food should be accessible to all, we are trying some new strategies this year to try to make the winter produce subscription available to more people:
- Subsidized subscriptions - We are offering a very limited number of subsidized subscriptions and we need your help to do so. Please consider adding $25 (or more) to your subscription payment to help others who lack access to fresh, healthy foods (sorry, contributions are not tax deductible). In most cases, the largest subsidy available is 50% of the subscription price, and the percentage awarded will be based on perceived need. The member will be responsible for the remaining amount of the subscription price.
- Payment plans - Although for most shares we do expect complete payment before distribution begins, we are offering a limited number of subscriptions with a payment plan option. Options include paying in 2 lump sum payments or paying monthly.
- SNAP/EBT/Food Stamp payments - We are pleased to announce we can now accept EBT payments at our Binghamton Winter Farmers Market pick-up at the Metro Center. Shareholders choosing this payment option will need to pay a small deposit via cash, check, or credit/debit card to reserve their share, and then can pay with EBT each month for the items received. The initial deposit will be deducted from the final month's payment.
- Working discounts - We are willing to offer small subscription discounts to members in exchange for work such as graphic design, marketing, coordinating a distribution site, and writing for the blog or newsletter.
